FAQ & Policies
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How long does hair need to be to get waxed? A minimum of a ¼ inch (the size of a grain of rice). If put into the amount of time it would depend on where you are getting waxed. For a brazilian I require a minimum of two and a half weeks after a shave or using a chemical hair removal such as nair. Three to three and a half weeks is preferred. Anything longer than 4 weeks of growth after a shave or chemical hair removal is not recommended simply for your comfort, as it will be more painful. For legs upper and lower 3-4 weeks of growth is recommended. Anything involving the face or underarms is about two weeks of growth. How do I prepare for an appointment? Make sure your hair is the correct length (see above). Showering before an appointment is recommended. Avoiding things like caffeine, alcohol, working out using a sauna and/or a tanning bed. All of these things can compromise your skin causing increased sensitivity which can result in more discomfort or even in refusal of service due to the integrity of your skin. Taking a form of anti-inflammatory 30 minutes before an appointment can help relieve some discomfort. Does waxing hurt? Simple answer yes. It is a physical form of hair removal. However, the first wax after shaving is always the worst. Once your body begins to get used to waxing it does become less painful. While it is still a form of hair removal which will cause some discomfort if continued to wax as recommended hair will begin to grow like hair is meant to and thin over time. Which causes this form of hair removal to hurt less. Why does it hurt sometimes but not others? There are so many different factors that cause our bodies to become more sensitive. Drinking caffeine or alcohol causes your pores to tighten making it hard for the hairs to leave the body while being waxed making the experience more painful. Lack of water before an appointment can also cause pores to be tighter which increase sensitivity. Weather changes cause our skin to change. Like in the winter time our skin tends to be on the drier side which will make you more prone to discomfort.. Menstrual cycles or being currently pregnant affect our hormones which can increase sensitivity. Working out before a wax can negatively affect the waxing process because it increases skin sensitivity due to increased blood flow and sweating, making the procedure more painful and potentially causing more irritation or redness; essentially, your skin is more prone to discomfort when it's warm and slightly compromised from exercise. If I am on my period can I still get waxed? Yes, but a tampon MUST be worn during the appointment. However getting waxed while on your menstrual cycle can be more painful you can still get waxed. Why does it seem like my hair grows faster during the summer versus the winter? It can seem like your hair grows faster in the summer compared to winter because warmer weather increases blood circulation to your body, delivering more nutrients and oxygen to hair follicles, which in turn can stimulate faster hair growth; additionally, increased sun exposure during summer can boost vitamin D production, another factor contributing to healthy hair growth. What do I do after a wax? Shower (cool to lukewarm water) after a wax by end of day avoiding scented body wash and loafs or any form of exfoliation. For a minimum of 24 hours after being waxed. No saunas, hot tubs, massage or steam treatments. No tanning (sunbathing, sun beds or fake tans). No sport, gym work or other exercise. No sex or foreplay of any kind. Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands. Wear clean, loose fitting clothes. Avoid swimming in pools, oceans or hot tubs. Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area, other than those recommended by your specialist. For a minimum of 24 hours after a wax.
